Before I wrote any short film ideas I decided I needed to research what makes a good short story. I looked around online and found a very interesting and beneficial page from the BBC about making a good short film idea. First I found out that you need an exciting idea. This goes without saying for any film, you need an exciting idea that will interest people and grab their attention. This can be anything. If you feel that you know what sort of ideas will interest people then that is where the base of your idea starts. What makes a good film idea is out of the box thinking or looking at something from a different angle, maybe an angle that someone hasn't looked at it before. A good example of this is the fairy tale little red riding hood being a horror film. This is interesting for people as it is out of the ordinary and looks at the story from a different angle. Using this out of the box thinking gets you a good story idea but this is just the start. Relating this to our situation is quite easy as anyone in our group can easily come up with an out of the box idea.
Next you had to have the obvious things: A good script and good acting. Again this is key in any film because if your acting isn't good then often your film isn't good. Personally for our situation I don't feel that this is that important as we don't have any budget at all for this film. This means that acting will have to be either voluntary or us. The next thing I saw was that you had to have high production value. This is when you use lots of money to create a few scenes that are very good. This makes your film look high budget, even though it's not. You can do this in many ways, such as enhancing the film or having good cinematography. There are manu different ways in which you can make the film better. After extensive looking, I saw that the main things a short story needs to have is: Good character development, good visual aspects and must not be too long or complicated.
