We decided to have a day where we use a DSLR camera and film different shots and just experiment with them. We started first think of different shots to experiment with and we decided to experiment with a 'Graphic Match' shot. Here is what we produced.
Firstly we decided to not to have the shot still, purely because we didn't have access to a tripod and we wanted to make it a little more realistic. So the shot itself is handheld. We started by doing a graphic match with an object. We chose two different scenarios: One where Ellis is washing his hands, and one where he is filling up his cup. Both shots involved water. We filmed the tap first then edited it so the water flow remained constant. We then decided to do an audio match or match cut by having Ellis sigh and the audio from the sigh turns into the sound the hand dryer made.
This type of edit is a really clever way to cut from scene to scene, In this particular case we were satisfied with the result of our experimental shot as it looked a lot better than expected. We did however debate among the fact that it isn't a perfect graphic match (the water shots) and that it was a bit off however we discarded our thoughts as it was a first attempt and was bound to not be perfect. We thought that the match cut in the audio match was the best one because we edited it just right. maybe we could have had a sound bridge or an overlap in sound rather than just cutting straight to the hand drier audio but the sigh wasn't long enough so we had to work with what we had. Finally to conclude we thought that for a first attempt it was a really good effort however if we do decide to do this in our film then we need to practice more and get better because it didn't look really that professional but other than that, we were happy with the result.
