Opening Title Sequence for Short Film
This title sequence begins with an establishing shot of where the sequence is taking place. It is snowy suggesting that the film is taking place in winter. There is non digetic music in the background which is very eerie and strange. This is in the sequence in an attempt to build suspense and tension within the viewers mind. This will also make them nervous and anxious to find out what will happen next.
The sequence continues to this shot of a train track. This could be to foreshadow the fact that something may be going to happen on a train at some point during the film and this is preparing the audience for that moment. The eerie music continues through this as it carries on trying to keep the viewers intrigued and win the edge of their seats.
It then show a stream with blood running through it. After initially showing this stream there is then a close up of the blood in the stream. This could be to signify that someone will die or be badly hurt, possibly near this stream. It also shows that this film will be dark and have death and violence in it. This will have a big effect on a viewer as they will now be expecting something possibly horrific to happen rather than not doing. This will also make them anxious and excited to see the rest of the film.
As the sequence comes to an end, the audience is shown the stream from a long shot so that they may possibly remember the scene for further on in the film. It also continues with the slow eerie music to progressively increase the tension and suspense. The quiet, gentle sound of the stream can also be heard. This then begins to fade out as the sequence comes to a close, leaving the audience not knowing what to expect when the film returns to their screens.
Overall, i believe that this is a very good opening title sequence because it is very clever in the way that it foreshadows possible events that will be happening later on in the film. It also builds suspense and tension very effectively through the use of slow eerie and strange music. Below is the video of the title sequence in full.
