Media Studies: Research - Lottery adverts/draw

In our sequence we have decided to film our own adverts that will be seen on the television during our film, these shorts are crucial to advancing the plot and using them in the filming production rather than editing them separately, for example, the shorts will be played through the television by using a USB or it will be relayed through HDMI.

Lotto Draw

To begin with, researching already existing adverts for the National Lottery would be a start. These adverts will give us an idea of a basic layout and how we will film the two shorts we have in mind.
The first short we are considering is an advert for the lottery, this is essential to the story as this is what drives the main character to purchase a lottery ticket in the first place. We decided to browse YouTube and here are a couple of examples of what we found:

It is evident that a lot of these advertisements use comedic and dramatic/emotional themes in order to persuade their audience, however in our film we want the advertisement to be short, snappy and almost clichéd to an effect.

While completing this research we also found this old advertisement, although it isn't particularly related to our lottery theme we like the style of the advert, particularly the grainy saturated editing and may consider implementing old style into our own production.

Lotto Draw

The second short would in fact be the national lottery draw, the reason behind this is because we can then allow the numbers we desire to be drawn in order to match that of the ticket. As well as this we think it would be better in terms of originality as we aren't just taking pre existing clips and throwing them in our film, creating our own short also makes our film unique.

Upon review of this short clip, we realised we would have to make our version of the draw extremely brief so screen time isn't wasted. Also, since we don't have the equipment used on this clip (the random ball selector) we will have to use a cheap alternative, for example, A novelty lottery/ bingo machine.
