Todorov's Theory

Todorov's Narrative theory states that all films follow the same stages or plot line. He splits this into 5 stages:

Stage 1- Equilibrium

This refers to at the start of the film where everything will be alright and the characters will al be content in what they are doing and what is happening in their lives.

Stage 2- A Disruption

In this stage of Todorov's theory the main characters in the storyline will run into a problem or disruption which will interrupt their usual routine and will remove them from this idea of everything being okay and stop the continents of which has been developed in the first stage.

Stage 3- Realisation

This is when the characters in the film realise that the disruption has occurred and realise that everything isn't okay anymore.

Stage 4- Restored Order

This is the part of the film when the characters decide that something needs to be done to fix this problem. They set out to do so and after a course of events the problems will be restored and everything will once again be calm and peaceful.

Stage 5- Equilibrium Again

This is where normality has been restored and the characters can resume with their normal lives.
