In order to cover all of the bases and make sure we have researched all that we need to research, I decided to look into similar films and look at the similarities. The plot for our story and some of the characters are similar on one way to 'Fight Club' The reason I thought this was because fight club has two main male characters who are good friends and then something major happens with that friendship causing it to break. In the case of fight club it turns out that the two friends: The Narrator and Tyler Durden are not friends at all and that Tyler is just another personality that the narrator longs to be. Now in our short film, we don't have this type of twist however the two friends do fall out over the lottery ticket and Steve kills Luke causing him to exist no longer similar to Tyler. Due to these similarities, I have decided to look into fight club and see some of the similarities it has to our storyline and some of the conventions within it that we could use for our film.

One convention that fight club uses is narration. This is a good idea to tell a story from the main characters point of view. I feel it works effectively and gives a great feel to the film, like you're being told a story. On the other hand I don't feel a voiceover would be good for our short film, due to the fact that a voiceover takes away the realism of a film and makes it like a story and our drama film is meant to be realistic. It works for fight club because he is telling you a story and Tyler is another personality of the narrator and isn't actually real. This means that they don't have to maintain realism when talking about Tyler or his story. For our film we do.

Another convention fight club has is that in terms of mise en scene, it uses real life props and settings. It has clothes that normal people would wear, it had cars normal people would drive and has jobs normal people would do. The only difference is that as it goes on, it likes to change from these typical and average stereotypes in order to show development in the film. This is something we could do. Start off with normal mise en scene but as the film progresses and characters develop start adding different and more obscure props and settings showing development within the character from a normal man to not so normal.
In conclusion I feel that fight club has a lot of similarities to our film and that it would be a good idea to use the similarities and conventions used in fight club. Fight club is a great film and if we can create anything remotely close then it would be amazing! Here's an iconic scene.
